A faster Makisoda

Makisoda is now up to 12x faster

this post may come off as slightly technical, but I heard your complaints about the load times across all parts of the website and I spent the weekend working on a fix.

so now there’s a new server. what does that mean now? well, simply put… Makisoda is now up to 12x faster — there’s way less latency, which basically means pages load faster now.

numbers for nerds

if you’re not familiar, the goal is to get the latency down as much as possible. latency is basically the time it takes for something to load.

  • when testing latency in Toronto on the old server, it was roughly 1402ms (roughly 1.4 seconds) which isn’t so great. now, on the new one, it’s around 108ms. that’s under 2/10ths of a second, which translates to 12.98x faster load times.
  • on the west coast from Los Angeles, it now takes 277ms while the old one took 1609ms. that’s still over 5.5x faster. a great improvement!

here are some more test results:

conclusion

overall, it now takes less than a second for Makisoda to load. Brazil and Argentina’s load times were cut from 2 seconds down to less than a second!

the rollout of the new server caused Makisoda to go down for roughly an hour though, so I apologize.
